RE : Shiksha Sahayog Yojana


Shiksha Sahayog Yojana was launched on 31.12.2001.

The above scheme is designed to provide scholarship to the children of parents covered under Janashree Bima Yojana.

The following are the salient features of the scheme.

1)

A scholarship of Rs. 300/- per quarter is to be paid to students studying in standard IXth, XIIthe for a maximum period of four years or till the student completes XIIthe standard, whichever is earlier.

2)

Either of the parents should be member of Janashree Bima Yojana on or before 31st of May so that child will be eligible to get scholarship for academic year starting from June.

3)

The Benefit is restricted to two children of a family.

4)

If a student fails or is detained in the same standard he will not be eligible for scholarship for the next year in the same standard.

5)

Once a person is admitted as a member under Janashree Bima Yojana, further proof of income is not necessary at the time of selection of beneficiary under the scheme.

6)

No premium is charged either to the parent of the scholarship holder or to the Nodal Agency. It is an additional benefit given to the children of the parent covered under Janashree Bima Yojana. If the premium under Janshree Bima Yojana is not paid on next Annual Renewal date then the child shall not be eligible for scholarship for the next academic year.



PROCEDURE :

i)

The member of Janashree Bima Yojana whose child is eligible for scholarship shall fill up an application form as per proforma A-I and submit it to the Nodal Agency.

ii)

The application form has to be submitted every year for claiming the scholarship mentioning whether the child is promoted or detained.

iii)

A list of beneficiary students has to be submitted to the concerned LIC P&GS Unit for disbursement of scholarship by the Nodal Agency with full details such as name of the student, school's name, class, member's name, master policy no., membership no. as per proforma A-II.

iv)

The scholarship will be disbursed to the beneficiary students through the concerned Nodal Agency on quarterly basis

v)

LIC will send the Account Payee cheque in the name of the Nodal Agency along with list of beneficiary students who will pass on the scholarship to eligible students every quarter.

vi)

Nodal Agency has to maintain records and submit certificate of utilisation quarterly to P&GS Unit of LIC as per proforma A-III.

vii)

No. of Scholarship are limited and hence selection of beneficiary students will be on "poorest of poor" basis.
