WORKSHOP ON INTERNATIONAL MARKET ACCESS FOR INDIAN TEXTILES

A Workshop cum Counselling was organised at Erode on 9th and 10th of December, 2002, jointly by the Textiles Committee, Coimbatore, Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council [PDEXCIL], Mumbai and Handloom Export Promotion Council, Chennai. The objective of the seminar was to give an exposure to the products particularly of Bhavani/Chennimali/Erode cluster units to international markets. The powerloom and handloom units in the above areas manufacture exportable goods and the workshop organised has therefore provided adequate information to improve their performance.

Shri K. Shanmugam, I.A.S., Executive Director, Handloom Export Promotion Council, Chennai inaugurated the workshop by lighting the lamp. Shri K. Karnan, Joint Director, O/o. the Director of Handlooms & Textiles, Chennai, Shri Ka. Marappan, COA Member, PDEXCIL, Shri J. L. N. Bharthe, Managing Partner, M/s. Vishalatchi International, Bhavani, Shri P. Krishnan, Joint Director, Textiles Committee, Chennai, Shri N. Jeeva, Deputy Director, Coimbatore were on the dais. Shri Jagat Shah, CEO of M/s. Global Network, Ahmedabad who has been given the task of conducting the workshop, explained in detail the needs and requirement of the global markets. In all 65 participants representing 30 companies from the textile units, participated in the workshop. The proceedings of the workshop were very much appreciated by the participants.

The programme has enthused the participants and motivated them to go in for direct exports. As a follow-up of this workshop, various measures are considered for implementation.
