Budget Statement for 2004

The Finance and Economic Planning Minister, Yaw Osafo-Masfo, presented Budget Statement for the year 2004 in Parliament on February 5, 2004. Following are some of the highlights of the budget statement :

  • Real GDP growth rate of 5.2% exceeded the target of 4.7% (6.1% growth in agriculture; 5.1% growth in industry sector; and 4.7% growth in services sector);

  • Inflation declined to 23.6% at the end of December, 2003; the target of single digit inflation set for December 2004;

  • Gross foreign exchange reserve equivalent to 3.9 month’s of imports as against projected 2.3 month’s of imports (highest since liberalisation of the foreign exchange market in 1990)
