Shri Ashok Hazra, Officer in Charge, Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner, Kolkata elaborately made power point presentation on different Central Govt. Schemes viz. 5% Interest Reimbursement, 20% Margin Money Subsidy for Powerloom Units, 15% Margin Money Subsidy for SSI & Jute units, 10% Capital Subsidy plus 5% Interest Subsidy for Processing, Garmenting, Design Studio and Technical Textiles and 25% Capital Subsidy for Handloom Sector under TUF Scheme. He also explained modified Group Workshed
Scheme for Powerloom units and Welfare Schemes of Powerloom weavers under LICI. He also highlighted the features of North East Industrial Policy, 2007 and informed that 30% subsidy on Capital Investment and 3% interest subsidy on working loan is available under this policy. The purpose of Exposure Visit by Handloom/ Powerloom weavers, Buyer-Seller Meet was also explained by him. He requested State Govt. to come forward with their schemes to textile entrepreneurs/owners for upgradation of their units.

Shri Manoj Sinha, Advisor-Capacity Building, IL&FS, CDI, Kolkata has made power point presentation and explained how to develop a cluster. He had shown video photography on the activity and functioning of a training center launched by IL&FS at Tirupur on stitching and RMG.

Shri G. Malsawmdawngliana, Joint Director of Industries (Handloom & Handicrafts), Govt. of Mizoram, Aizawl delivered his key-note address and appreciated the initiatives taken by Office of the Textile Commissioner, Govt. of India for the development of Textile Industry in the state of Mizoram. He stated that although Mizoram is predominantly concentrated with Handloom sector, but there is a scope for development in Powerloom and RMG sector. He also emphasized that Handloom sector may switch over to Powerloom
sector for upgradation of Textile Industry in that region.

Smt. Shashi Singh, Joint Textile Commissioner, Mumbai explained how to solve the problems which was raised by the participants in the seminar. Since there is a need of yarn bank depot as emphasized by local entrepreneurs, she requested State Govt. to send proposal in this regard so that the matter may be taken up with NHDC or DC (Handloom) by Textile Commissioner Office.

Shri A.K. Bhar, Assistant Director, Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner, Kolkata thanked all dignitaries, Central/State Govt. Officers, local entrepreneurs/industrialists etc. for their active participation in the seminar/workshop for making the programme most successful and result oriented.

After completion of the seminar/workshop, a team lead by Smt. Shashi Singh, Joint Textile Commissioner, Mumbai alongwith Central and State Govt. Officers visited some prominent handloom clusters and RMG units in the adjoining area.

A Workshop on “Development Schemes & Initiatives of Government of India for Textile industry” was organized by the Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner, Kolkata on 8/5/2008 at Nayagarh, Orissa under the Chairmanship of Shri Paresh Chandra Nayak, IAS, District Collector, Nayagarh, Orissa. The programme was sponsored by the Powerloom Development & Export Promotion Council, Mumbai. Shri P.K.Nath, Technical Officer, Powerloom Service Centre, Cuttack welcomed the guests and distinguished participants.
