As can be seen from preceding table 6, although Asia continues to be a major destination for the exports of cotton textiles (including cotton yarn), its share in the total exports destination - wise, has dropped from 45.25% in the fiscal year 1996-97 to 41.03% during the fiscal year 1997-98 and then to 37.31% during the succeeding year 1998-99. Now in the year 1999-2000, its position has improved considerably with the share increasing to 41.78% in the total exports destination-wise.

America's share in the total exports, destination - wise, has been increasing consistently over the years from 15.54% in the year 1997-98 to 18.60% in the succeeding year 1998-99 and now to 19.23% in the year 1999-2000.
