The Committee
during the year under review took up and made several
recommendations to the Govt. of India towards the
modernization and upgradation of the technology of the
decentralized powerloom sector and the development and
promotion of the exports of the products thereof. Some of the
important suggestions made by the Council to the Government
are as follows ;

TRADE POLICY REVIEW MEETINGS |
|
In response
to the communication from the Ministry of Textiles in
connection with the meeting concerning trade policy review of
European Union under WTO between the Ministry of Commerce /
Ministry of Textiles, necessary suggestions were submitted
with regard to the matters pertaining to the country. The
issues also covered the problems, which come in the way of
developing exports and suggestions for meeting the level of
trade. These have been furnished so that the matter could be
taken up suitably at the trade policy review meeting with the
country concerned.

JOINT WORKING GROUP |

In connection
with the meeting of the Joint Working Group / Joint Committee,
the details have been sent for taking up the issues concerning
problems which are coming in the way of developing exports to
these countries. |

PREFERENTIAL
TRADE AGREEMENT
Necessary information was furnished for carrying out the
negotiations for entering into India – Thailand Free Trade
Agreement.

EXIM POLICY |
| (a) |
The Council
submitted a Strategy paper to the DGFT for developing exports
and suggestions for formulating suitable Provisions in the
EXIM policy for 2004-05 to 2006-07 for carrying out amendments
in the Export - Import Policy 2002-2007.

| (b) |
The office of
the DGFT had initiated process of carrying out the amendments
in the Export – Import Policy 2002-2007. Accordingly, the
Council had sent a strategy paper for overall development of
the trade and specific suggestions for modification in the
EXIM Policy. Some of the suggestions which have been given on
the relevant issues / subject matter are ; |
